We wanted to provide you with an update on our situation. We are still open for business and are well prepared to deal with our online orders. Our presence at fairs and festivals will inevitably suffer, however, with many events likely to be called off.

This will have a significant bearing on our sales and consequently on the orders that we place with our producers. Many of these producers are small collectives and artisans, based both in the UK and in South East Asia, whose activities will already be constrained by restrictions on movement and supplies.

Whilst we would hope that support for small businesses may be forthcoming from the UK authorities, our Asian producers may not be as fortunate and a sustained period of difficulty may threaten their ability to continue. This is a situation that will be replicated across a number of sustainable and ethical brands, whose producers tend to be smaller in scale.

Whilst it will be a difficult time for us all, our ask would be that, when you are looking for a thoughtful gift or just indulging in a bit of online retail therapy, think small, think independent and think sustainable. 

There will inevitably be business casualties from this crisis but it would be such a shame for ethical producers to be the ones to suffer.
